Coast to Coast Gem Atlas

Like gold, Gemstone is where you find it. For every ounce of quality material, there are many tons of common rock. A rockhound could spend a lifetime of fruitless searching without leads to show the way, so that is the purpose of this GEM ATLAS. Over a period of years, we have noted and compiled every gem location made known to us. Many of these localities shown on these maps have been widely publicized and some have been worked over quite thoroughly. Actually, we have only scratched the surface and most new finds are made in the same general areas. We just have to search a little further or dig a little deeper.

Many states have antiquity laws prohibiting or limiting the collecting of petrified wood and certain fossils. Also, the federal government has laws regulating the collecting of petrified wood on public lands. The purpose of these laws is to preserve these priceless relics for the enjoyment of all the people.

We have not gone into great detail about private claims or property ownership as these are matters that are subject to constant change. Most restricted areas are posted, some owners grant permission to collect, some charge a nominal fee, and others don't allow anything. Always obtain permission on private property and be very careful around abandoned mines. If we use good judgment and observe the Golden Rule, we will seldom have trouble.

We believe that publicity of gem fields assures good hunting for more rockhounds, while secrecy only allows depletion of an area by a few. We will share all our knowledge with the best people we know our customers.

A world of good rock hunting to you.
