Nelchina Susitna Goldfields is a rare look at one of Alaska’s last gold rushes. Onl July 12, 1913, gold prospectors discovered gold on Albert Creek, a tributary of the Nelchina River drainage. Though it wasn’t a large stampede, it did contribute to the historical aspect of the Matanuska-Susitna valley. Areas covered in this book include, Caribou Creek, Alfred, Albert, Mazuma, Daisy, Oshetna, Crooked, Yacko, Tyone, Little Nelchina, and many more. Though the record shows that a prospector in 1898 had actually found gold in this area, no effort was made to carry out any plans of mining in the area. Also three years before the actual Nelchina strike of 1913, another group of prospectors made an attempt at a strike but became discouraged. This book covers geological and scarce mining history of the area.
